Meet DJ Taz What attracted you to get involved with Yoga Rocks The Park? I met Erik Vienneau, (the founder of YRP) at the Denver Chant Fest and we really connected in our collective passion for empowering and supporting communities to continuously to raise consciousness levels through music, yoga and engagement in life. Yoga Rocks the Park was a perfect fit for me and my music.
How would you define consciousness? Good question. It’s really anything with a transformation element… It has to do with things that support us to look deeper within. We are creating our own beings and we have to remind ourselves that the choices we make can really empower our lives. Encouraging people to make decisions that that are reflections of our inner truths. I like to create experiences that support us to really see ourselves, to see this power within ourselves and in each other.
What is your favorite song of all time? Let it Be by the Beatles.
How do you select songs to play in your mixes during a yoga class? Its really about the audience, about reading the room and connecting with the teacher. Really being present with the teacher is really important. When you have all of these elements working together, the students, the teacher, the environment, my song selection is less about me and really about trusting the energies all around. It’s kind of like you are pulling a card out of deck of cards, it’s totally energetic. My song selections are totally in the moment, and they are sometimes even a surprise to me. During this experience, we are all creating connections with each other and learning to be present in a multi-dimensional way… we are creating a oneness. The whole thing is really a form of a beautiful collective meditation when you think about it.
How do you prepare for a set? Meditation. Letting the inner divine take over and guide me through the set. Reminding myself to surrender to the flow of the class and take everyone with you on the ride. Preparing myself to hold space to provide a beautiful healing environment through music.
How would you describe your perfect day: My perfect day includes good healthy food, a nice yoga class, hike with a meditation session, lots of nature, time with my fiancée, a little business… make love…meet up somewhere where there are a bunch of musicians and play some music together, then before bed play a dance party at night for a couple 1000 people…make love again… then on to a beautiful nights sleep. That’s pretty perfect.
What, at this moment, would you say is your mission in life: It is to awaken people around me… to remind them that that they are divine beings.
Thank you both for sharing your love and inspiration. We can’t wait for Sunday!
